Kuehn Christmas Letter 2023
As usual, 2023 had ups and downs. It seems as we are getting older, there are more downs. Craig developed blood clots in his lungs requiring hospitalization last May. That’s the reader’s digest version.
Brodie turned 5 in January. Astrid turned 9 in November. Astrid had to overcome a challenging Barbie pinata. Brodie graduated from pre-kindergarten. The ceremony was as elaborate as a college graduation. Who knew pre-kindergarten was a big deal!?! (They all graduated.)
We did our usual stays at Lake Tahoe, NV in July and Park City, UT in August. In May, it was our usual trip to Mesquite, NV for Craig’s mother’s 92nd birthday. For October – November, we stayed at our timeshare on Poipu Beach in Kauai. Our friends, the Cordis, stayed with us. Suzie and Reece celebrated their birthdays there. At the end of November going into December, we went to Las Vegas, but alas, Utah was not in the final PAC-12 championship game.
We enjoyed going to Sacramento Republic soccer games. They won the USL Western Conference championship.
Suzie was elected treasurer of the El Dorado Home Winemakers Club. Later in the year, she was elected the President of the Faith Church, Cameron Park, chapter of the Daughters of the King. She is also continues in the healing ministry at Faith.
Craig continues to serve as chaplain to the Sacramento chapter of the Blue Knights motorcycle club as well as a chaplain in the Sierra Chaplaincy covering El Dorado County SO, Placerville PD, South Lake Tahoe PD, and Folsom PD. Craig is now the long-term supply priest for Trinity, Sutter Creek and continues as an Associate Priest for Faith, Cameron Park. Craig is making Negroamaro and Barbera this year. 2023 was a challenging viticultural year.
What is happening in Gaza is heartbreaking. There no winners. There are no good guys. War continues in Ukraine. Mass shootings have become an epidemic in the USA.
The Light of Christ is not dead. It still shines. Instead of thinking how to punish an enemy, perhaps we should think about the commandment to love. Jesus’ birth anniversary (whenever that really was) should be a reminder of his commandment to love. It is simple, but it is hard. It is also not impossible.
Have a blessed 2024.
